Who Parked The Car?
Some bands spend their careers looking for their place. Who Parked The Car prefers to reinvent it with every track. Born from the effervescence of Parisian jam sessions, this eight-musician collective blurs the boundaries between funk and jazz with music driven by groove, improvisation, and the sheer pleasure of playing together. With Wrong Answers Only, their first album recorded with vocalist Alice Chahbazian, the group opens a new chapter. Conceived as a tongue-in-cheek emotional survival guide, the record tells—with humour and tenderness—the journey of those who accumulate wrong answers before finally finding the right one.
It all began in 2017 at IMEP (a music school in Paris, partner of the Berklee College of Music), where a group of young musicians discovered the joy of improvisation before reconnecting several years later through Paris’s vibrant jam-session scene. From this encounter, Who Parked The Car was born: a collective of eight artists from diverse backgrounds, bringing together influences from France and Latin America. The band quickly made a choice that has become increasingly rare: there is no leader. Each member composes, writes, arranges, and takes part in the group’s artistic decisions. This way of creating music naturally shapes a sound in which the energy of Pop, the freedom of Jazz, Funk, and improvised music come together—without ever losing sight of groove and the sheer pleasure of playing as a collective. Each track reflects eight distinct sensibilities in dialogue with one another, complementing and enriching each other along the way. With Wrong Answers Only, their first album recorded with vocalist Alice Chahbazian, Who Parked The Car continues this collective adventure while opening up a new narrative chapter. Conceived as a tongue-in-cheek emotional survival guide, the album follows a character who moves from absolute confidence to a loss of control, before gradually finding a form of peace. Through collapsing certainties, constant forward motion, false remedies, and eventual acceptance, the album tells—with both humour and tenderness—the story of something we all experience at some point: learning from our mistakes and moving forward despite the detours. That story is expressed through music that refuses to be confined by labels. The songs foreground melodic immediacy without sacrificing ambitious arrangements, always leaving room for musical dialogue and improvisation. Alice Chahbazian’s arrival as lead vocalist opens a new chapter, while fitting naturally into the collective dynamic that defines the band’s identity. On stage, this philosophy truly comes to life. The songs evolve from one concert to the next, arrangements shift, and the musicians regularly exchange roles. Improvisation remains at the heart of every performance. More than a fixed repertoire, Who Parked The Car advocates for living music—music designed to be shared with an audience. This approach notably earned the band the 2024 Made in New York Jazz Competition, whose jury included Mike Stern, Lenny White, and Randy Brecker.
