A Voice That Stays: Gregory Porter Leads Our Sunday Sound

Some voices don’t come and go. They stay with you. The kind you return to on slow mornings, late nights, and everything in between. That’s exactly why Gregory Porter is now the face of our Sunday Jazz, Blues & Soul playlist.

If you know Porter, you know the feeling. Born in Los Angeles in 1971 and raised in Bakersfield, California, raised on gospel, shaped by jazz, and carried by soul, he’s built a sound that feels both timeless and deeply personal. With albums like Liquid Spirit and Take Me to the Alley, he brought jazz back into living rooms far beyond the usual scene, without ever losing its depth. His voice is warm, unmistakable, and always honest, telling stories about love, struggle, identity and humanity in a way that quietly hits hard.

The Sunday Jazz, Blues & Soul playlist is all about slowing things down without losing feeling. Music that breathes. Music that gives space. And Gregory Porter sits right at the heart of that. You’ll find some of his finest tracks woven into the selection, including Mister Holland, My Babe, Everything You Touch Is Gold, Musical Genocide and Hey Laura. Songs that carry weight, but never feel heavy.

At the same time, Porter also finds his place in our more groove-driven corner. In our Funky Jazz, Blues & Soul playlist, tracks like Thank You, Don’t Lose Your Steam and Liquid Spirit bring that unmistakable bounce and energy that remind you just how versatile his sound really is.

Together, those selections show the full picture: from intimate and reflective to uplifting and full of movement.
